Three clean sheets provide strong team platform
The match ending scenario would paint a significantly different view for
each club, for Arsenal a poor result on the back of two goalless
performances would have left Arsenal without a win in three and with
supporters feeling that not enough was done in the transfer window. As
it was the club achieved a complete as performance as you could hope
for, secure a vital first win and grab a third successive clean sheet.

Knockout! Wilshere and Podolski land blows as Arsenal qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League
Arsenal boss Wenger said: "There were two good goals. One for
Wilshere after being out for so long it's great to see and the other one
was fantastic for Podolski.
"Wilshere had a difficult start but got more confident. I don't worry too much about his confidence level because that is one of his strengths as well.
"He must not be too obsessed about goals. He must be a complete midfielder not just an offensive player. The goals will come naturally.
"In our last game against Tottenham after 60 minutes, Wilshere lacked a bit of petrol. But I didn't feel that tonight.
"He is not far away now from being at his best but I must still manage him and not overload him with too many games."
Wenger also revealed his pride at reaching the knock-out stages again but has set his sights on finishing above Schalke.
The Arsenal boss also praised Giroud's contribution and believes the ex-Montpellier striker has finally stepped out of Robin van Persie's shadow, the player he was bought to replace.
Wenger added: "We needed two good results, our result and the Schalke result and so I am happy tonight. We had to be patient, wait for our chances and not make a mistake.

Man City 1-1 Arsenal: Perseverance pays
A late strike by Laurent Koscielny maintained an unbeaten start and
underlined, with a dominant first half display, that the Gunners have
the quality, balance and maturity to fight for this title. On the road
for the second match running Arsenal came from behind to take a positive
result. With better finishing from Gervinho it would have been all
three.

Hillsborough: Everton's emotional tribute to families
Ahead of Everton's game against
Newcastle a minute's applause rings out around Goodison Park as the Blue
side of Merseyside pays an emotional tribute to the families of the
1989 Hillsborough disaster.
A recent report published by an independant panel exhonerated the Liverpool fans for the tragedy at Sheffield Wednesday's stadium which saw 96 people lose their lives on over-crowded terracing at an FA Cup semi-final.
Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre thanked Everton for the tribute: "At times like this, football rivalries take a back seat - something that makes this city unique and I think supporters of both clubs can be immensely proud of the way they have conducted themselves over the past days, weeks and years since the tragedy." --> http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19630900

Everton 2-2 Newcastle: Officials missed two goals - David Moyes
Everton manager David Moyes insisted two controversial decisions
denied his side victory against Newcastle United at Goodison Park.
In a thrilling 2-2 draw, Everton substitute Victor
Anichebe saw play waved on by referee Mike Jones despite his header
crossing the line - and Moyes also complained an earlier strike from
Marouane Fellaini was wrongly ruled out for offside.
Newcastle counterpart Alan Pardew agreed and Moyes said: "There are two goals missed and we can't get them back. I had a word with the officials but I was not in there ranting and raving.

Dennis Bergkamp - Arsenal Legend Forever
Dennis Nicolaas Bergkamp (born 10 May 1969) was a Dutch professional footballer and now is the assistant manager to Frank de Boer at Ajax.
Originally a wide midfielder, he was moved to main striker and then to
second striker, where he remained throughout his playing career.
Bergkamp has been described by Jan Mulder as having "the finest technique" of any Dutch international and a "dream for a striker" by teammate Thierry Henry.
The son of an electrician, Bergkamp was born in Amsterdam and played as an amateur in the lower leagues. He was spotted by Ajax at the age of 11 and made his professional debut in 1986. Good form led to an international call-up a year later, attracting the attention of several European clubs. Bergkamp signed for Italian club Internazionale in 1993, where he had two disappointing seasons. He then joined Arsenal in 1995. It was at Arsenal where Bergkamp rejuvenated his career, helping the club to win three Premier League titles, four FA Cup trophies and reach the 2006 UEFA Champions League Final, which marked his last appearance as a player. With the Netherlands national team, Bergkamp surpassed Faas Wilkes's record to become the country's top goalscorer of all time in 1998, a record later eclipsed by Patrick Kluivert.
Bergkamp was selected by Pele as one of the FIFA 100 greatest living players and is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in his generation. In 2007, he was inducted into the FIFA Hall of Fame, the first and so far only Dutch player ever to receive such honour. Bergkamp has also finished third in the FIFA World Player of the Year award twice. Due to his fear of flying, Bergkamp has been affectionately nicknamed the "Non-Flying Dutchman" by Arsenal supporters.
